Samuel L. Jackson – Est. $13 Million, New York

We bet even the die-hard fans of Samuel L. Jackson wouldn’t have known that the actor has one more talent aside from wowing the audience with his spectacular performance in films. It seems that flipping apartments has become his passion these days. After laying his hands on an apartment located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan in 2005 for an approximate $4.8 million, he made up his mind to rake in some money by selling it after spending a good 13 years there.

He completely renovated the luxurious apartment which boasts of 3.5 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms in total and listed the property at an estimated price tag of $13 million. The Captain Marvel actor has a lot to offer to his fans, but we are mighty pleased with the way he is handling something as complicated as buying and selling apartments, and that, too, in New York City.

Eddie Murphy – $85 Million, Hollywood Hills

The famous comedian wasn’t trying to showcase his wealth when he bought his Hollywood Hills house for $20 million. It features indoor and outdoor swimming pools, nine bedrooms, a spa, tennis court, and finally, a fabulous, comfortable, and luxurious guest house.
The man knows how to live his life without worrying about his finances, and we’re sure that his girlfriend, Paige Butcher, enjoys living in there as well. The biggest proof is his other mansion in Granite Bay, California which is worth around $6.5 million, plus his car collection. His house’s monthly expenses must hit the roof!

Sylvester Stallone – Beverly Hills, Estimated $10 Million

Our beloved Rocky purchased his first real estate in 1998. Located in Beverly Hills, he became the owner of a 16,000-square-foot house after paying $10 million, though its price would probably be three times bigger today. His mansion is, of course, Italian-styled, and it comes with six bedrooms and nine baths.
Stallone’s property also includes an Olympic-sized pool and beautiful gardens. Its highlight is probably its massive garage, where Sylvester stores all his luxury rides. Seems like a house fit for a celebrity as wealthy as Stallone is, who currently sits on a mindblowing $400 million fortune.

Bruce Willis – Est. $33 million, Turks and Caicos

The Hollywood actor has always been a name to be reckoned with in the industry. He has entertained the audience with his hard-hitting performance in films like Pulp Fiction, Sin City, The Sixth Sense, The Expendables 2, and Armageddon. His Parrot Cay estate comes with a Pirate ship! You heard it right. Aside from that, the property has a full playground, a movie theater, special access to a resort, and a stunning pool.
The estate is nestled in the archipelago of Turks and Caicos and is one of the super-luxury homes that can catch the fancy of many. The whole area of the property is almost 11,000 square feet and boasts of 1000 feet of secluded beach. The total value of the estate is around $33 million. This is what we mean by a grand investment and Bruce Willis didn’t disappoint us at all.

Ron Howard – Est. $27.5 Million, Greenwich, Connecticut

With memorable films in his kitty like Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind, Ron didn’t have to think twice when it came to buying a top-notch property spanning 17,000 square feet and having six bedrooms in total. Reportedly, the Greenwich Connecticut mansion is estimated to cost around $27 million and has an array of high-end amenities like a private lake, a tennis court, and an indoor pool.
What takes the attention apart from these is the beauty of the landscape, the forest, and green pasture. And rightfully, the man decided to keep his children in Connecticut, far away from Los Angeles. We are quite sure he has figured everything out for his kids, too.

Denzel Washington – Est. $14.6 million, Los Angeles

The Hollywood legend doesn’t need an introduction. He has stunned us all with his powerhouse performances in films such as The Hurricane, The Great Debaters, Remember the Titans, American Gangster, Cry Freedom, and just so many other legendary and iconic films.
Denzel lives in a lavish property in Beverly Park, in the heart of the posh neighborhood of Beverly Hills, and the estate stands on an area of 1.5 acres. Its special features include a large pool, a lush green tennis court and we’re sure so much more. Having around $220 million dollars in his pockets, laying his hands on a $190 million must have been quite a cakewalk.

Kathie Lee Gifford — $10.5 Million, Florida Keys

Today has made Kathie Lee Gifford a household name, and more than ten years have passed since her first appearance on the show. Her fans were utterly disappointed when she announced her retirement on April 7, 2019. Well, we do know how heartbreaking that is, but she needed to quit after years and years of hard work. If rumors are to be believed, she is planning to wield the camera for Then Came You, an upcoming film.
In addition to that, she has proved her mettle as a writer, too, as her recent book has turned out to be a bestseller. She would probably want to lead the rest of her life in peace at her Florida Keys residence which she acquired for a price near to $10.5 million. The home covers an area of 11,400 square feet and has 8 bedrooms, a personal gym, and a private deck.

Henry Winkler – Est. $3.4 million, Bel-Air

Henry attained fame as a comedian and actor and is best known for his portrayal of Arthur ‘Fonzie’ Fonzarelli in Happy Days, a popular sitcom from the 70s. He notched up a higher income by starring as Sy Mittleman in Children’s Hospital, Barry Zuckerkorn in Arrested Development, and Eddie R. Lawson in Royal Pains.
His performance in Happy Days earned him three nominations for a Primetime Emmy and helped him win two Golden Globes. Winkler and his better half, Stacey, laid their hands on a 9000-square-foot nest in Bel-Air, and according to the public records, the County English-style house cost him around $3.4 million. The house has four bedrooms and the whole property sits on an acre of land.

Corey Harrison – Est. $2.4 million, Las Vegas

The popular reality TV personality came into the limelight as a prominent cast member of Pawn Stars, a television series on the History Channel. The show gives a clear picture of his work at the Las Vegas-based World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. Corey happens to be its co-owner, alongside his dad, Rick Harrison. His personal life was marred with two divorce cases, one with Charlene Steele in 2015, and the other with Kiki Harrison in 2018.
We heard that recently, Harrison put his dream house in the market at an estimated price tag of almost $2.4 million. The Las Vegas property lies in the far northwest valley and has large lawns, Greco-style banisters, sculpted hedges, a circular drive which connects you to a columned entry, a balcony, and a brick facade.

Clint Eastwood – Est. $145 Million, Carmel, California

Clint Eastwood was a true heartthrob in his heydays and had stunned the audience with his magnetic personality. As an actor and an established director, Eastwood has gifted us a number of movies which are popular even today. For a man of his caliber, it’s only apt for Clint to purchase an opulent estate to match his star status. Clint’s Mission Ranch estate lies at the juncture of the Carmel River and the Pacific Ocean.
Standing on this property, you would get a mesmerizing view of the nearby beach, the blue ocean waters, and the well-known Monterey coastline. Even though Eastwood bought this Carmel property for a whopping $300 million and revamped the whole thing with his own hands, we heard that he has listed it for an estimated price tag of $145 million only.

Kirk Douglas – Est. $3.45 million, Palm Springs

Kirk Douglas has crossed a century on this planet and is one of the few living actors who graced the golden era of Hollywood. He kickstarted his acting career with The Strange Love of Martha Ivers in 1946 and went on to become a huge box office star in the 50s. The father of another Hollywood legend, Michael Douglas, Kirk has been honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
As far as his personal properties are concerned, he had a house in Palm Springs, California, which has been recently listed for sale for a rough price of $3.45 million. You would get an amazing view of the surrounding mountains from the estate. Among a number of features, there is an outdoor billiards table, a private pool, a barbeque, and a rolling lawn. The main house has 3 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms and was one of the nicest investments that Kirk might have made in his life.

Melissa Gilbert – Est. $1 million, Michigan

Melissa Gilbert took up an acting career when she was still a child in the late 60s and appeared in a number of commercials. Her role of Laura Ingalls Wilder in the NBC series, Little House on the Prairie gave her all the recognition she deserved. She grabbed the limelight by competing in the 14th season of the reality show, Dancing with the Stars and was the President of the Screen Actors Guild from 2001 to 2005.
Melissa has retained the charm she has always been famous for, and it looks like she is happy and content with whatever she has achieved in her life. Gilbert and Timothy, her husband, made up their mind to sell their house in Brighton, Michigan at a price close to $1 million in 2018 and made the sale papers ready. However, they later decided to retain it owing to some reason we are not aware of.

Kelly Ripa & Mark Conseulos – Est. $30 Million, New York

Kelly Ripa has made her way up the ranks and is often hailed as one of the most powerful and decorated media personalities. Banking on her hard work and perseverance, she has been able to see success, fame, and money throughout her life. Her portrayal of Hayley Vaughan in the popular daytime on ABC, All My Children, will never be forgotten. Kelly garnered more fame with Kelly and Ryan, a morning talk show, and there wasn’t a single person who didn’t fall in love with her.
She chanced upon Mark Consuelos on the All My Children sets and soon, the duo settled down in holy matrimony. Ripa and Consuelos take immense pride in their New York City townhouse and we wouldn’t be exaggerating if we tell you that the property is a thing of beauty. A beautiful custom-made wardrobe, a private rooftop garden, and a fantastic interior decor make the $30-million estate worth a visit.

Danica Patrick – Est. $4 Million, Scottsdale, Arizona

Best known for her might on the race track, Danica has excelled as one of the most famous racing drivers recognized worldwide, although injuries have impacted her career often. Now that she has officially retired, she didn’t feel like moving into her Scottsdale mansion, despite having the best of amenities like a wine cellar, breakfast bar, and more.
She has decided to decorate her home as per her taste and preferences, just like any other sensible homeowner would do and has made investments in the best of interiors. Every minute aspect of the house speaks of her tastes and she worked on it relentlessly. So much is her attachment to the house that she dubbed it ‘The Jetson House’.

Matt Lauer – Est. $5.8 Million, New York

You might know Matt Lauer as one of the hosts of Today on NBC. Matt was with the show from 1997 to 2017 and that’s a pretty long time indeed. Keeping that aside, he found further fame by hosting the opening ceremonies of the world-famous Olympic Games and has also been a host of the PM magazine. Some controversies led to his termination from NBC and Lauer went ahead and made a few substantial investments in real estate.
Currently, Matt is the owner of many a property which is located close to his co-op in Manhattan. He also owns an apartment in New York City, and the architecture has a neoclassical essence and has plenty of Greek-inspired elements. Lauer and Annette, his better half, purchased their Upper East Side residence in 2004 at a price close to $5.882 million.

Simon Cowell – $29 Million, Beverly Hills

If there were an exclusive database of celebrities with cool mansions, then Simon Cowell and his $29-million home would top the charts. But it isn’t the eccentric design and lavish interior that take the cake in this property; its the technological inclusions that remain mind-numbing. A fingerprint analysis and retina scanner confirm one thing – this is a man who takes his privacy seriously.
We can only imagine how much his home and auto monthly expenses might cost, but to be honest, we doubt that he’s worried about that matter. Cowell now sits on an estimated $550 million fortune.

Sean Connery — Est. $1 Million, Ireland

Sean Connery is a Hollywood legend owing to some of his brilliant performances over the years, and his fruitful career allowed him to rake in some big bucks. Back when he was making movies left and right, he decided to purchase this gorgeous property in Ireland which suited him just fine since it was far away from the hullabaloo of Tinseltown and is surrounded by green forestry which is soothing to the eyes. At last, Sean could heave a sigh of relief, living in such a quiet environment.
The property is spread across an area of three and a half acres and the main house has bedrooms and a few bathrooms and is decorated with some artistic furniture, antique paintings, and silverware. Last we heard, Connery’s property, which he fondly called Violet Hill House, has been put up in the market, and included in the property listing is every bit of antique furniture and decorations within.

Billy Joel – $13.75 Million, Florida

With one property pawned off to Jerry Seinfeld, Billy Joel should probably consider buying a new home or holding on to his other properties – but this musician seems to have other ideas. Joel sold off his Mediterranean-style home in Miami Beach Florida at $13.75 million, a meager $175K more than the price he paid when he acquired it.

And giving up a 150-foot boat for that deserves some credit – but given his love for boats, we won’t be surprised if we hear that Joel would leave land for water.

Peyton Manning – $4.5 Million, Denver

For a man with a yearly salary of $18 million, Peyton Manning’s mansion description would strike anyone as quite modest. For one, the property of the former Broncos quarterback costs a paltry $4.57 million. The 7-bedroom mansion sits on a snug 16,464 square feet of space which also includes a 7-car garage and a panic room.
And it doesn’t save him much in home upkeep anyway – with a security system and panic room like his, he’ll be lucky if all he pays are electricity bills! With a $200 million fortune though, we doubt he’ll face any financial problems whatsoever.

Jimmie Johnson – Est. $14 Million, Manhattan

A rich blend of art and comfort is what Jimmie’s plush Manhattan home exudes. The floor plan is highly flexible, where both the kitchen and dining room can be closed or opened towards the living room. The latter is divided into two seating arrangements and imparts a soft and airy feel. The seven-time champion in the NASCAR cup series deliberately kept the furnishings’ palette throughout the house very neutral except for the study which has oak panels and few walls are in crisp white, replete with artworks from his collection. Now that he’s found this luxury property, we are sure that the racer won’t have to look for retirement homes.

Halle Berry – $5 Million, Beverly Hills

It is hard to believe an Oscar-winning actor won’t be able to afford a $5-million house with her credit card! When it comes to Halle Berry’s tastes, whose net worth reaches the $70 million quote, it goes Mediterranean all the way down. Her Beverly Hills home was first purchased for around $2.3 million and is now on the market for $5 million. The Catwoman star knows how to manage her wealth and get the most out of it. We also don’t think she has any house mortgage to pay for her other glamorous mansions (valued from $8 million to $15 million) in Malibu and Hollywood, CA.

Sheryl Crow – $5.8 Million, Nashville, TN

Being a celebrity singer/songwriter and a single mum comes at a steep price; one that Sheryl Crow had to factor in when buying a home. Hence, her choice of a 50-acre solar-powered Tennessee property comes as no surprise. The convenience of having everything in one place might be enviable indeed, but the cost of insuring a house that boasts everything from a piano room to a recording studio and a church (yes, an actual church) is enough to have any bank account cringing in horror. Let’s not even quibble.

Celine Dion – $65 Million, Florida

The music diva, Celine Dion, with an estimated net worth of $380 million, knows how to work with her bank account potentials by building and designing the most amazing Water Park Mansion located in Florida. She has created her own Bahamian-style paradise on a 10,000-square-foot of land. The mansion is surrounded by inviting pools, a few custom, man-made rivers, basketball, tennis, and croquet courts. It is estimated to cost around $65 million, purely justified by Dion’s living standards.

Katy Perry – $8 Million, California

Latest news regarding pop star Katy Perry indicate her desperate need to sell her house located in Laurel Canyon. She wants to ‘get rid’ of it so much, that she is willing to sell it for not a single-dollar of profit! Perry, whose net worth reaches nearly $100 million, bought the house in 2011 for $6.5 million. Perry’s not-so-modest house collection includes her Colonial House in West Hollywood, her Los Feliz, L.A home worth $3.39 million, her L.A home worth $6.5 million and finally, her New York apartment valued at $2.7 million. She seriously needs to hire a private wealth management expert lest she forgets the number and locations of the houses she owns.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – Florida, Estimated $3.4 Million

Dwayne Johnson’s publicity is constantly growing, and with more publicity comes more money. “The Rock” has already been investing in real estate, and his newest addition to his portfolio is his $3.4-million Florida mansion, where he moved in recently. The 13,000 square feet house comes with six palace-styled bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a large home cinema, a gym to maintain his incredible physique, a pool with a hot tub, and elegant gardens. We don’t have details about any loans taken, but for the time being, The Rock doesn’t associate with any financial advisor.

Cher – Estimated $45 Million, Malibu

Cher may have once boasted ownership of this gorgeous Renaissance-style mansion, but power has since changed hands. The 16,000-square-foot property is now owned by Beyoncé. The singer and her husband were considering buying a home with an Italian-style rustic feel when Cher put the property up for sale. And between the artifacts, fireplaces, and Gothic chandeliers, we bet the singer will be considering premium in-house insurance. One thing holds true nonetheless – Cher has impeccable taste.

Miley Cyrus – $2.5 Million, Malibu

Miley Cyrus may be only 24, but her penchant for acquiring real estate precedes her. Unique of her properties is a 2-bedroom Malibu home that seems to contrast sharply with her personality. While the singer appears to have an infamous wild party-girl persona, the $2.5-million purchase is situated on 2.06 acres of lush greenery. Considering the hassle associated with home mortgage loans for properties this size, it appears our Hannah Montana has her head screwed on tight in the home purchase department.

Judge Mathis — Est. $3.199 Million, California

Having a reality show while being a judge pays off a lot – who would have thought? At the age of 59, Judge Mathis is a former 36th District Court judge, and it’s quite obvious why he decided to retire early: he’s got a house worth over $3 million in California. It’s massive, covering an area of 6,399 square feet and features five spacious bedrooms. However, a simple description like this doesn’t do any justice to the beauty that this building has to provide – Judge Mathis has done a wonderful job of decorating it. Working for shows like Judge Mathis has allowed him to have enough money to make investments like these without having any money problems.

Brooke Shields – Est. $4.55 Million, New York City

Brooke Shields, who gained early fame and success for her unparalleled performance in Pretty Baby in 1978, has grown up to be a prolific actress and a savvy investor who has never needed the service of a bankruptcy attorney in her life. The actress recently relocated to a Greenwich Village four-storey townhouse which looks absolutely fabulous from both inside and outside. Shields, who is admittedly a real estate romantic, picked up this 1910 property and took help of a Brooklyn-based design firm to infuse modernism with tradition, and the end result is for all to see.

Diane Keaton – Est. $1.5 million, Los Angeles

When the Academy Award winner had taken a pause from life in Hollywood, she often used her free time visiting construction sites in the hopes of finding a suitable abode. Finally, she got hold of her grand Los Angeles farmhouse, which is spread over an area of 8,000 square feet and is the subject of her new book “The House That Pinterest Built”. Diane Keaton has shelled out $1.5 million dollars to design the property with her own hands and the project has taken over three and a half years – she now calls it a “dream home”. The interiors are filled with pure white cabinetry, raw wooden, beams, subway tile, shiplap-covered walls, and a variety of antiques. This is surely one of the nicest investments of her life.

Ozzy Osbourne –  $10 Million, California

For a couple that listed their rental home for more than $20 million, you would imagine that Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne would be less thrifty when buying a home. However, the opposite is, in fact, the case. But its six bedrooms, swimming pool, several bathrooms, and numerous other features seem like sufficient reasons to opt for this choice. With the kids all grown up, no need to be paying higher home insurance rates than necessary.

Winona Ryder – Est. $4,095,000, Beverly Hills

A refurbished version of a 1920 Beverly Hills house is exactly how actress Winona’s nest looks like. Thanks to her Manhattan-based interior designer and actor friend Kevin Haley who helped her at every step, her Beverly Hills mansion underwent a massive makeover. Since Ryder loves furniture, curtain rods and wrought-iron varieties were beautifully placed. To help her engage in her hobby, her interior designer friend transformed the tiny patio and backyard into a lovely garden. No matter how architecturally advanced the house looked, there was a blend of the right sophistication. Well, all good things come at a price, so Ryder surely had to break her bank account for snagging this.

Christie Brinkley – $30 Million, Long Island

One of the many perks of being a blonde stunner is clearly being paid big bucks for walking the runway. And how else would Christie Brinkley even consider buying a home in Long Island if it wasn’t for the perks of her trade? Sure, the 9-bedroom home has been on and off the market with Brinkley’s asking price beginning at $30 million, but it looks like the most eccentric and lavish home to live in. Little wonder she can’t make up her mind on whether or not to give it up.
Wesley Snipes – Est. $4.1 Million, Alpine
Wesley Snipes found himself behind bars for three years as he failed to file his income tax returns. Even though he was released in 2013, this controversy had a negative impact on his career. The well-known, actor, director, and martial artist gained a foothold in the entertainment industry with his performance in films and the list includes Demolition Man and White Men Can’t Jump. His most iconic role so far has been that of Blade in the popular Blade trilogy. We have come to know from the property reports that Wesley and his spouse Nikki sold off their home in Alpine, New Jersey at an approximate price of $4.125 million in 2014. We wouldn’t say that the Snipes couple incurred a loss since that was a pretty good deal they got. It’s nice to know that the duo didn’t have to keep their house on mortgage.

10 Things We Learned About Humans in 2019

By Yasemin Saplakoglu – Staff Writer 18 hours ago

Humans are incredible living machines, with legs strong enough to run marathons and brains smart enough to know that invisible dark matter exists. Our bodies make sure we hear the correct frequencies, send the right immune cells to a paper cut and know when to stop drinking water. But there’s still much to untangle about our human bodies, so all the time, we are discovering new organs and new secrets about how all of our nooks and crannies keep us going. This past year, new discoveries revealed an invisible network of immune cells, a “Jell-O” violin in our ears and how the oldest people in this world survived to such extreme ages.

“Jell-O” hearing

This optical microscope image illustrates wave motion in the tectorial membrane, a gooey membrane somewhat reminiscent of Jell-O that sits on top of the sensory hair cells in the cochlea. New research shows that the membrane is able to tune its stiffness to better translate sounds at certain frequencies into neural impulses.

Humans might hear so well because of a tiny “Jell-O” violin that sits inside the ears. The thin, blob of tissue, otherwise known as the tectorial membrane, is made up of 97% water. This tissue helps to bring sound waves from the ear to nerve receptors, which then translate that vibration into an electrical signal the brain can read. New research conducted on mice has found that this ear Jell-O helps the cochlea — a cavity in the inner ear that contains these nerve receptors — separate high frequencies from low frequencies. It does so by changing its stiffness, based on water flow that runs through its tiny pores, similar to what happens when you tune a violin or guitar. [Read more about the ‘Jell-O’ Violin]

Tiny capillaries

Researchers discovered a previously unknown network of capillaries called trans-cortical vessels (lines extending outward in the photo) in mouse bones.

Our bones might be full of a previously unknown network of microscopic tunnels. These pathways might be vital for transporting immune cells — made in bones — out to the blood for circulation. A group of researchers discovered hundreds of these tiny blood vessels, or capillaries, in the leg bones of mice. But finding something in mice doesn’t necessarily translate to humans, so one of the researchers decided to stick his own leg into an MRI machine. The scans of the researcher’s leg showed that there were holes in the bone tissue that could indicate that these capillaries also exist in humans. [Read more about these microscopic tunnels]

"Thirst neurons" light up in the subfornical organ of the brain.

The brain makes sure that we don’t drink too much or too little water, using a prediction mechanism in the gut, according to new research. The group figured this out by implanting optical fibers and lenses in mice near the hypothalamus — a brain region that regulates blood pressure and other bodily processes and is home to “thirst cells.” A few seconds after drinking something, the mouth and throat begin firing signals to the brain. These signals tell the brain that you feel less thirsty — so you stop drinking. That way, you don’t keep drinking for the 10 minutes to an hour it takes for that liquid to actually enter the bloodstream and circulate to cells in the body.

But your mouth and throat would tell your brain to quench your thirst, irrespective of the type of liquid you’re drinking, if it weren’t for another mysterious signal. This one comes from the gut, and it makes sure the brain knows that the water reaching it is salty — which can dehydrate the body — or nonsalty, ensuring that the brain quenches thirst only when the mice drank fresh water.  [Read more about how the body knows when to stop]

New organ

Researchers discovered a new organ sitting below the outer layer of the skin. The organ is made up of nerves (blue) and sensory glia cells (red and green).

This year, scientists discovered a previously unknown organ that sits right under the skin, and it may help you feel the pain of a pinprick. It was previously thought that needle pricks were sensed by nerve endings that sit below the outer layer of the skin. But a new study conducted on mice (but which is also thought to apply to humans) found that nerves tangled up in special cells are what help us feel this sensation. This mesh of branched cells called “Schwann cells” and nerves together makes up a new “sensory organ” because it responds to external pressure signals (pricks or jabs) and relays that information to the brain. Tiny lizard-like muscles

Human embryos grow extra, lizardlike muscles in their hands and feet that disappear before birth, scientists found. By looking at 3D images from an embryonic image database, a group found that at about week seven of gestation, human fetuses had hands and feet that contained about 30 muscles each. Six weeks later, they contained only 20. Before the baby is born, those extra muscles either meld into other muscles or shrink away, but it’s unclear why or how.

These temporary muscles might be leftovers from our ancestors and may have vanished from adult humans over 250 million years ago, when mammals first began evolving from mammal-like reptiles, the researchers suggest. But because the study was small, it needs to be replicated with a much larger group before researchers can say for certain that these appearing and disappearing muscles exist in all fetuses. World’s oldest people

Supercentenarians, or people who are 110 years of age or older, might have a secret. A study published this year found that supercentenarians have higher-than-average concentrations of an immune cell called a “T helper cell” that may protect them from viruses and tumors. To figure this out, researchers drew blood from seven supercentenarians and five control participants, who ranged in age from those in their 50s to those in their 80s. They then isolated the immune cells and figured out what they were doing by measuring the messenger RNA that is produced by the genes in the cells. Messenger RNA translates genetic instructions from DNA and brings it to the nucleus of the cell, so that specific proteins can be produced.
The supercentenarians had a type of T helper cell called CD4 CTLs that had the capability to attack and kill other cells. Of course, it’s not clear if supercentenarians owe their longevity to these immune cells, but previously, such cells have been shown to attack tumor cells and protect against viruses in mice. With a special kind of MRI called "diffusion tensor imaging," the researchers were able to visualize pathways in the brain.

There might be a reason why some people are really good at trivia and seem to “know everything”: very efficiently wired brains. A group of researchers in Germany analyzed the brains of 324 people who had varying degrees of general knowledge or semantic memory (the type of information that would come up in a game of trivia), based on questions given to them concerning various fields such as art, architecture and science.
Brain scans of the participants showed that those people who had retained and could recall more general knowledge had more efficient brain connections — stronger and shorter connections between brain cells. This makes sense, because imagine answering the question, “What year did the moon landing happen?”

We might have the word “moon” stored in one area of the brain, but the “moon landing” in another, and knowledge of the year it happened in yet another. People with an efficient brain can better connect those various items together to quickly answer the question. (But, the researchers didn’t find any link between more general knowledge and more brain cells.) [Read more about how trivia masters do it]

Immune cell X

an abstract, multicolored illustration of two immune cells

Scientists have discovered a previously unknown type of cell in the human body called the “immune cell X,” and it could act as two other immune cell types, playing a role in triggering type 1 diabetes, new research suggests. There is likely not a lot of these cells in the human body — maybe less than 7 out of every 10,000 white blood cells, but they might be powerful players in driving autoimmunity — when the body mistakes its own cells for something foreign and attacks them.
These X cells resemble both B cells and T cells, two cell types that are important for fighting infections (but are also responsible for autoimmune diseases). The X cell makes antibodies like B cells that activate T cells, which then go on to attack anything it deems foreign. In the case of type 1 diabetes, immune cells mistakenly destroy healthy beta cells in the pancreas that make the hormone insulin. The researchers found evidence that these X cells exist in those with type 1 diabetes, but not in healthy controls. Even so, it’s not clear if there are one or multiple cells responsible for the disease. [Read more about these rogue cells]

Tongues can smell

Woman sticking out tongue

In other news, the cells in your tongues have the ability to smell. Researchers discovered this after growing human taste cells in the lab. They found that those cells contained a couple of molecules found in olfactory cells, the cells found in the nose that are responsible for, well, smelling. When they exposed taste cells to odor molecules, the cells responded just like the olfactory cells do. But this isn’t uncommon — olfactory cells have also previously been found in the gut, in sperm cells and even in hair. Though we knew that taste and smell were greatly intertwined (which becomes apparent when a blocked-up nose makes food taste more bland), this study suggests human taste cells might be much more complicated than previously thought. Limit to human endurance

It turns out, humans, even endurance athletes, have limited energy. Scientists calculated the limit of human endurance to be around 2.5 times the body’s resting metabolic rate (the number of calories the body burns for basic physiological needs such as maintaining body temperature or breathing), or 4,000 calories per day for an average person. They calculated this by analyzing data from some of the most extreme endurance events that take place on our planet, such as the Race Across the USA, and by comparing that data to other endurance events.
They found that the longer the event, the more difficult it became to burn calories. But athletes don’t fall to the ground when they reach this 2.5-times threshold. They can keep going, but they can’t maintain a balance of the number of calories consumed and the amount burned, so they begin to lose weight, which isn’t sustainable in the long term. What’s more, researchers found that pregnant women operated at around 2.2 times their resting metabolic rate, just by growing a baby. So no matter the activity, growing a baby, cycling or running across the U.S., the body seems to have a limit to the amount of energy it can give you in the long term. By Kimberley on September 6, 2017

It has been said that eyes are the window to the soul, and many men and women alike factor in eye-shape, style, color anymore when they are looking for a potential mate … or date. Blue eyes, green eyes, hazel eyes, and even a clever and confusing combination of the three. We have 20 most beautiful eyes in the world 2017, and some of them are beautiful for looking slightly outside of what is considered to be the norm. Isn’t it the imperfections that actually make someone perfect … ?

Below are 20 Most Beautiful Eyes in The World 2017….. But for me the editor of this Blog….This young girl from India has the most most most beautiful eyes.

Did you know that Mila Kunis had one green eye and one brown eye? No, we didn’t know that either, but it’s actually quite a common eye condition that actually affects more of Hollywood than you might have thought.
Mila’s different in eye color is said to be down to an undiscovered eye complaint in her childhood, which had actually left her blind in one eye for many years without anyone realizing. It was after recent surgery to repair cataracts that she regained her sight.

2 – Angelina Jolie

You can’t really talk about the most beautiful eyes in the world 2017 without having a special mention for Angelina Jolie’s eyes. Famous for those just as much as she is for her lips, a UK study in 2014 proved that eye color and style / shape was very important when it came to dating. Her blue eyes came up as the sexiest in a number of polls, and second to hers were the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, who also rock those baby blues.

3 – Alexandra Daddario

She’s got mesmerizing eyes, but some of you may remember this Upper Eastside actress from San Andreas, the saving-the-world thriller also starring The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson. With even the likes of Zac Efron gushing over those big baby blues, you know you’re on to a winner.

4 – Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth is another of the different-coloured-eye-club of Hollywood, with a condition called Heterochromia Iridis. In a lot of people, this condition is rather subtle with very few changes between the two eyes. In the case of Kate Bosworth, however, the condition is very noticeable. If you look at her eyes closely, you’ll see that they are very different colors, and this is NOT something achieved with contact lenses.

5 – Cameron Diaz

Another member of the baby-blue club, Cameron Diaz has eyes that the world over knows about. If you were asked to pick eyes out of a line, this actresses eyes would probably be the easiest of the bunch. She has very distinctive eyes, big and blue and beautiful, and they’re adored and lusted over by men and women all across the globe. We could stare into those baby blues all day …

6 – Megan Fox

There seems to be some speculation over whether or not Megan Fox’s look is entirely natural, but you can’t deny that she has, and always has had, a beautiful set of eyes on her. In fact, they have been voted as the most beautiful eyes in the world 2017, and even a few more years before that too. Although it is debated, her face shape, and particularly the eyes, have changed considerably since about 2013 onwards, and many experts suggest these aren’t changes that can easily be achieved with makeup and special trickery alone. We’ll let you make your own minds up.

7 – Giada De Laurentiis

You’d never guess that this beauty was 47 years old. Giada De Laurentiis’s eyes certainly don’t give the game away, that’s for sure. She’s a chef, TV presenter, writer and more, originally born in Italy, and she’s also appeared on a wide range of TV shows, showing off her culinary skills.

8 – Olivia Wilde

She’s well known for her exotic looking eyes, much like many of the girls on this list, and also like many of them she has an eye condition called Heterochromia Iridis. Dan Akroyd is another celeb known to have different colored eyes like Olivia Wilde. As well as full Heterochromia Iridis, you can also suffer from a partial version of the condition, and actors that are known to have this include Superman hunk, Henry Cavill, and even Dr. Quinn herself, Jane Seymour.

9 – Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor was known to have the most beautiful eyes in her day, and part of this was down to clever makeup trickery. Often wearing purple and blue eyeshadows, these are the perfect shades to help make naturally blue eyes look even bluer, and black eyeliner with a brown shadow shade is also another combination commonly used.

10 – Kristin Kreuk

She has appeared on a number of ‘most beautiful eyes in the world’ lists, and with those steely baby-blues, it’s not surprising. Here’s a fun fact for those of you who also have blue eyes. Studies that took part among women, and also male prison inmates, showed that people with blue eyes had a slightly higher tolerance for alcohol than people with brown eyes. At the same time, however, those with blue eyes were also more likely to abuse the substance too. Who knew eye color could determine so much?!

11 – Kristen Stewart

Twilight babe, Kristen Stewart is well known for her show-stopping eyes, a bluey-green that seems to shade with every photo taken. Kristen has quite deep set eyes, perfect for bringing a shine to the occasion with stain-style shades on the eyelids. If you also have deep set eyes, makeup experts suggest avoiding darker shadow shades. This can make your eyes look sunken, which is generally not considered a great look.

12 – Aishwarya Rai

Most Beautiful Eyes in the World 2017 12

She has some of the most Googled eyes around the world, but Aishwarya Rai is actually quite rare. It is not common to find a woman of Indian descent with blue or green eyes, but she has a hazel, blue, green combination, and one that often changes too. If you take a peek at photos, her eyes look different in almost every shot. It is not uncommon for Aishwarya Rai to wear brown eye lenses for more traditional parts, but we do love it when she embraces her natural eye color.

13 – Demi Moore

She’s 54 years of age, but you’d never have guessed it to look at Demi Moore. The woman with the beautiful eyes who starred alongside Patrick Swayze in Ghost has had her fair share of troubles in life, with her recent marriage breakdown (from Ashton Kutcher) causing her so much stress, she reportedly lost two of her front teeth as a result of it. In fact, when you look back over the life that Demi Moore has had, it makes her current fame and accomplishments all the more bright, with a rather tough upbringing, a number of failed relationships, mental health problems, and even the need for eye surgery twice to repair her sight behind her.

14 – Alice Eve

Her right eye is green and her left eye is blue, but that’s not the only thing that makes Alice Eve so beautiful. The English actress is well known in Hollywood circles, with Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, Star Trek Into Darkness, Men in Black 3, Sex and the City 2, and She’s Out of My League under her belt. You may also recall that she popped up in four episodes of Entourage.

15 – Celina Jaitley

Another Desi beautiful with what appears to be unusually colored eyes, Celina Jaitley is the proud owner of blue, green, grey eyes. Just like others with a light eye shade, the tone of her eyes changes regularly, and seemingly with every photograph taken of her. Ex Miss-India is only 35 years old but has notched up an impressive career list, with beauty queen, model and now acclaimed actress too.

16 – Alyson Hannigan

Famous for roles in How I Met Your Mother and the American Pie series of movies, Alyson Hannigan also has eyes that are different colors. She has the same condition as Kate Bosworth, but it’s not entirely obvious when you look at her. Rather than having two eyes that are entirely different colors, her eyes are blue on the outside and green on the inside or, on occasion, brown.

17 – Milla Jovovich

You might not remember this, but Resident Evil babe, Milla Jovovich, was actually a supermodel before she became a kickass actress. You can see why. From an early age she was a natural beauty, winning her spot in the ‘Most Unforgettable Women in the World’ campaign, run by Revlon. What we should probably also tell you is that she was just 11 years of age when this happened. Impressive, right?

18 – Elizabeth Berkley

Many of us will probably remember American actress, Elizabeth Berkley, from Saved by the Bell, in which she played the part of Jessie Spano. Of course, some of us might even remember her from the much-talked-about 1995 movie, Showgirls, which saw her in some rather compromising positions indeed. Whatever you remember her from, you can’t deny she’s got mighty beautiful eyes. Just like many others on this list she’s been on a few most beautiful lists, and also a few most beautiful eyes lists too. It’s not difficult to understand why.

19 – Jane Seymour

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Jane Seymour, is another in the two-eyes, two-colors club. In fact, we think it made her kind-of perfect for her role as Bond Babe in the 1973 hit, Live and Let Die. She was actually born in London, UK on February 15th, 1951. Yes, that’s right, she’s 66 years old, but with eyes as gorgeous as hers, you’d never have guessed it.

20 – Charlize Theron

Another blonde bombshell in the world of Hollywood, the eyes of Charlize Theron are well known across the globe. Exotic and beautifully adorned with clever makeup, it might surprise you to learn that the actress actually has green eyes, and not blue (like we thought they were).
